The taste of N O I R


As a follow on from the opening night of the exhibition 'exotica - exotica N O I R' at artSPACE berlin, where black platters of Sushi - with a black theme - seaweed, black sesame seeds, poppy seeds - were served accompanied by Irish 'Back Velvet' cocktails, followed by black Lindt Chocolate balls.........

(The Black Velvet cocktail : 1/2 flute of Champagne (75mls) and a 1/2 flute of GUINNESS® Extra Stout (75mls)).

I decided to experiment with a N O I R themed meal with friends and was intrigued by the black edible things in the local spice emporium in Kilkenny, Ireland....



Black Turtle Beans from China with butter beans as a bean pate, black Spanish Olives and Beetroot Humus as contrast

Black Spagetti 'Specialita al Nero di Seppia' - coloured with squid ink - with black shelled mussels and pink prawns ....

Lychee and Apple Sorbet topped with Blueberries, which appeared black when contrasted with the white flesh of Lychees and the sorbet .....
