The mono-print process ...These miniature orchids have been drawn directly from the flowering plants and are 'true to life' in scale using the hand drawing printing technique of mono-printing. Printing ink is applied to a glass surface with a roller, a sheet of paper is placed onto the ink and the image is drawn directly onto the paper. Once completed, the paper is peeled from the ink to reveal the mono-print drawing. Unlike most printmaking, the image can only be made once. The technique attempts to capture the elusive and intriguing qualities of these little exotic orchids.

Kilkenny Castle Specimen Roses, IRELAND

DETAIL

A series of four oil paintings of specimen Roses picked from the gardens of Kilkenny Castle, IRELAND. The oil paintings were based on pencil drawings of each rose ; 'Precious Platinum', 'William Lobb', 'Pink Ballerina' and 'Evelyn Fison'. The roses are set against either a ground of deep indigo or against thick impasto turquoise oil paint.
